The Can-Am X3 engine is an amazingly durable engine up to about 320 horsepower.  Beyond this power level, it takes specialized products and services to make the powerplant reliable.  Evolution Powersports was the first in the industry to make big power with this platform and and have not taken our foot off the gas ever since. Our engine development program is the culmination of 24 years of engineering high horsepower upgrades for both the UTV and Automotive industries.

Since no two customers have identical power and usage goals, we custom tailor each engine build.  For example, some customers want a reliable 360-380 horsepower.  This can be done with a basic engine package that includes pistons, connecting rods, crank balance and our EVP exclusive direct replacement Custom Age 625 head studs with a severe duty head gasket.  Beyond this power level, requires substantial strengthening of the block and sealing surface between the block and head.  This process includes EVP custom pistons, Carrillo connecting rods, EVP spec camshafts, interlocking sleeves, oversized EVP Custom Age 625 head studs and a special surface treatment to ensure head gasket sealing between the block and head. Our engine packages have been proven through our own in house drag race program. We have made nearly 700 horsepower from 900ccs in our Outlaw Class vehicle.  No other US competitor has even come close to that power level in an X3.

Process: Upon receipt, every customer engine is inspected externally for shipping damage, serialized and torn down.  The block is then sonic cleaned and reinspected.  We do this so when you receive your engine back it looks like new regardless of how it looked when you sent it to us. This process also helps us to identify any structural problems or cracks.  All engines have the crankshaft inspected and the rotating assembly balanced for the ultimate in durability and smoothness. All engine components such as the oil pump, water pump, gears, etc components are checked and any part that does not meet spec is replaced. Connecting rod and main bearings are all replaced with new. Each piston has the ring package file fit to the corresponding bore.  EVP ring end gap specifications have been refined and customized for maximum durability and power.  Every engine is shipped back to the customer in a wooden crate to prevent shipping damage.  We can also powder coat the valve cover and oil pan for a truly custom look. Billet girdles and billet cylinders will be available soon also.

The EVP cylinder head packages are the key to maximum power output.  Like our blocks, these have been refined and perfected over the last 4 years.  Early on in the process, we sacrificed a cylinder head to see how much the ports could be enlarged over stock.  The larger the ports, the more air we can get into and out of the engine.  Once we maximized flow, a CNC program was developed so every single cylinder head would be identical.  Valves and valve springs were the next area to be addressed. Custom oversized valves and higher rate valve springs were made to further increase the flow into and out of the engine.  The valve pockets and combustion chamber are also part of the CNC program.
